Welcome to the Golden Cardinal Scavenger Hunt!
Did you know that the original mascot for the University of Arkansas was a Cardinal? Although we are Razorbacks today, this history of the Arkansas Cardinals has not been forgotten. To commemorate our history and celebrate the 5th year aniversary of A-Week, we’ve hidden a two pound Golden Cardinal on campus!
Each day of A-Week, a riddle will be published in the Arkansas News to where our Golden Cardinal has been hidden. You’ll have five days to try and find our Golden Cardinal before anyone else!
The finder of the Golden Cardinal will be able to keep the Golden Cardinal and win a $100 Dining Dollars, $150 worth of Razorback merchandise from the Campus Bookstore, Signed Basketball by Razorback Basketball Coach, Eric Musselman, and a Flat Screen TV!
Here are the rules!
●Participation in the Golden Cardinal Search is limited to University of Arkansas first-year students. Non first-year students, faculty, and staff are ineligible to participate.
● The Golden Cardinal will be hidden on University of Arkansas property and will not move. All five clues pertain to a single location where the Golden Cardinal is located.
● The contest participant who locates the Golden Cardinal by August 21 at 5:00 pm and returns it to New Student & Family Programs in Arkansas Union A683, is the potential winner of the prize.
● The potential winner must be present to win the Golden Cardinal at a date and time to be determined.
● No clues, nor the hiding place, require entry onto private property.
● A new clue will be published in Arkansas News and A-Week website beginning Monday, August 14, and ending with the final clue on Friday, August 18, unless the Cardinal is found before then.
● Clues will be published on https://aweek.uark.edu each day at or around 9:00 am.
● The contest ends at 5:00 pm on August 21, 2023.
● The Cardinal must be returned to New Student and Family Programs by 5:00 pm on Monday, August 21 in ARKU A683 or the prize will be forfeited.
● The contest ends when the Cardinal is found.
● The contest status will be updated daily on the A-Week Website, Arkansas News, and NSFP social media (facebook.com/uarknsfp and Instagram – @uarknsfp) through Friday, August 18.
● The person returning the Cardinal must provide a valid UARK ID Card and proof of fall 2023 enrollment.
● Participants who engage in unsportsmanlike, disruptive, or abusive behavior will be disqualified at the discretion of New Student & Family Programs.
● Anyone who damages, destroys, or trespasses on public or private property will be disqualified from the contest. Participants must obey opening and closing hours of buildings and follow all local laws, ordinances, and university policies.

The Golden Cardinal was hidden in the garden between the Agriculture Building and the Agriculture Annex.
Clue 1: Monday August 14th
Welcome New Razorback, we’re so glad you’re here!
It’s time to search for the Golden Cardinal so far and so near.
For it’s hidden somewhere on campus- the finder will get their fair share!
But seeker, beware of Dickson Street, there is nothing for you over there.
Clue 2: Tuesday, August 15th
Our Golden Cardinal is like every other fowl.
It’s not invisible, in fact, it’s perched on a spot that’s quite divisible!
Don’t be confused by the expected height of it’s wooden chair;
Our little friend prefers to dine beside the hare.
Clue 3: Wednesday August 16th
A Former President taught very near,
A Miss America lived within ear.
An entomologist would love our Cardinal’s home;
So much so, one would think it’s turning into a golden gnome!
Clue 4: Thursday August 17th
Stop and smell the roses, or even the Echinacea Purpurea.
You’re so very close, can you sense the euphoria?
For the Cardinal is just down this path.
8 steps or 4 skips; you do the math!
Clue 5: Friday, August 18th
Make sure you duck as you go through the tunnel.
It’s the opposite of Irreplaceable, can you hear it rustle?
