Monday: A-Day of Academic Success (August 17)

Morning

  • A-Team #1 – Welcome & Introductions (Small Group Session Breakout)

    • Note: if you don’t have an A-Team Leader or small group and want one, please message us through the Contact Tab on our website to see if we can get you into a group!
  • Class of 2024 T-Shirt Pick Up 
    • New Student & Family Programs is providing you with a FREE Class of 2024 t-shirt for new students. These shirts are given to each new class of students and include the University of Arkansas official seal and your class year on the back. Drop by the Union Mall anytime during the pick-up window to grab your free swag!

Afternoon

  • Study Break Campus Self-Guided Tour
    • Take a walk, get a feel for campus, and familiarize yourself with the numerous resources and facilities that can help you be academically successful as a college student!
    • Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm (this is a self-paced event which you can start any time this day)
    • Place: Start in the Union Mall (by the fountain)

      • Drop by to meet the Walton academic advisors and other members of the Walton Undergraduate Programs Office, get your questions answered, and chat with other incoming business majors.  This is a great time to ask about classroom locations and delivery methods as well as majors and anything else that is bugging you.  Be sure to wear your mask!  We look forward to meeting you soon.

  • Beacon Ceremony
    • As you begin your journey at the U of A, the words of our Alma Mater can be a guide through your college career. As the Alma Mater says, the U of A can be a “Beacon of Hope” during your time on the Hill and we want to recognize and celebrate that at our newest tradition–the Beacon Ceremony. You will not want to miss out on sharing this experience with the rest of the Class of 2024 as we come together and reflect on how you can help create that beacon.

Tuesday: A-Day of Spirit and Tradition (August 18)

    • Go on a self-guided walking tour around the campus to highlight a few of the historic landmarks, buildings, and campus traditions.

      • Starting at 6p follow @foodonthehill_ar Story on Instagram and take part in “A” Week Trivia: Virtual Edition! Guess any of the trivia questions correctly and be entered into a drawing in which you could win a Chartwell’s giftcard, a FitBit, or a pair of Apple Airpods! This event is brought to you by UREC, Chartwell’s, and University Housing!

    • Time: 6:30am -7:30am
    • Place: The field between Maple Hill South and the Poultry Science Building

Afternoon

  • Wellness Hog Talk – with Dr. Morgan from the Wellness Center
    • An introduction to the 8-dimension holistic model of wellness used by the Department of Wellness and Health Promotion of the Pat Walker Health Center. Students will be guided through the definitions of wellness, how culture affects wellness, and introduced to some breathing strategies that can help reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, and being overwhelmed.

  • Faith Fest
    • The University of Arkansas has many opportunities for students to connect and explore their faith, no matter how you may define faith. Come meet our Faith-based student organizations and campus affiliates and take a popsicle to go. This event is sponsored by the Council of Religious Organizations.

    • Topic: BUILDING AND SHAPING YOUR ALLYSHIP PANEL DISCUSSION
      Razorbacks come from various backgrounds, experiences, and identities. This diversity is what makes the Hill so special and understanding how we can work to make our community as inclusive as possible is important. Come share your thoughts and learn with other students and reps from the Multicultural Center.

  • Engagement Hog Talk with Dr. Mary Skinner (Director of the Office of Student Activities) 
    • Come hear from current University of Arkansas student leaders from the Associated Student Government, University Programs, and Registered Student Organizations.  If you want to get involved on campus this is the place to be and get all your questions answered.

Saturday and Sunday: A-Weekend of Community (August 22 and 23)

  • Chocolate Wasted
    • Come to Chocolate Wasted on Saturday, August 22nd from 6-8 pm! Locations will be near your residence hall all across campus. You’ll be able to enjoy some chocolate treats and get resources about alcohol education and other important safety tips!

    • Ask your RAs for more details about times and locations

Evening:

  • Razorback Traditions Pep Rally
  • Who are the Hogs?  We are the Hogs!  Learn this tradition and many more as we go through the University of Arkansas Traditions. The event will feature members of the University of Arkansas Marching Band, Spirit Squad, Mascots and student leaders from across campus.  There will also be a special message from University of Arkansas Athletic coaches. The event will kick off with DJ Derrick so sign-on early.
